National Main Trunk Line N5 Highway in Pakistan Passing the One-year High Temperature and Heavy Load Test ——Asphalt Pavement Construction Technology of JSTI Successfully Serving the “Belt and Road Initiative”
26-May-2016N5 Highway, built by China as aid to Pakistan, is located to the north of Karachi, is an important north-south traffic line as a main economic artery in the country. This project has the features of high temperature in the area, heavy load traffic, complicated quality of local materials and serious disease with asphalt pavement, which could seriously affect the traffic safety.
Entrusted by CREEC, the Road Institute of JSTI undertook the technical service work for the construction of asphalt pavement of the project. To better guarantee the construction quality of asphalt pavement and realize more precisely the high standard design concept of asphalt mixture in the world today, JSTI dispatched technical personnel to form a technological consultancy group to reside on site. They overcame difficulties in security, poor work environment, hot weather, pressing work time and heavy task, and did massive investigation and analysis work in the initial period. After field investigation and research by the expert group, and in-depth analysis of the local traffic and climate conditions, in conjunction with the actual situation of the project, the technical consultancy group solved difficult issues of pavement structure design, raw materials and batching ratio design by optimizing and comparing schemes, and the Superpave high performance asphalt mixture developed mainly by JSTI was used, this mixture effectively solved problems such as insufficient performance of high temperature track for pavement, and ensured excellent performance indicators for all layers of pavement. The technical consultancy group also invited relevant experts periodically to carry out technical training for the project management personnel, technical personnel and workers of the project on organization management, aggregate processing, equipment commissioning, asphalt mixture blending, field spreading and compacting, so that the field personnel learned more theoretical knowledge and greatly raised their technical and management level, ensuring a high quality standard for this project in Pakistan.
